Pistachio nuts, orange peel, paper bags, dolls’ arms,
rubber
noses, plastic dogs, cotton bobbins. Much to the
delight
of those who share my living space - I just love
to collect
and hoard.
Ordinary everyday details such as wallpaper scraps and
old curtains bring me so much inspiration and excitement
that
all I want to do when I find such things is grab hold
of them, pull them from there everyday environment,
and run like a mad woman right back to my living room.
Here I can often be found amongst piles and boxes of bits
and bobs, cutting, gluing, collaging and painting them
into the world of my artwork.
Since graduating in 2004 with a BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design (USA), I have travelled various paths - a stint in illustration agenting, publishing,a residency at Queenswood School for girls and teaching art classes at Wandsworth prison to name just a few.
These days alongside my illustration and creating of art works in general, I work in children’s television on a freelance basis art directing, prop making and creating ideas for make-and-do programs such as 'Mister Maker' and 'Blue Peter'. Clients have included Nickelodeon, The Foundation and the BBC. I also run workshops for a wonderful charity called Epic Arts, working with children of different ages with varying disabilities.
I exhibit my work when I can and make paintings, illustrations and assemblages on a commission basis for all sorts of clients from a wide range of industries, as well as privately.
I have recently finished illustrating two children’s books, ‘Hector’ to be published by Templar in April 2011, and “The Good Little Wolf’, to be published by A and C Black in November 2010.
I am extremely excited about both projects and can’t wait to see them in print!
